AI training for companies: what Art. 4 AI Act requires
Since February 2025, companies that use AI must support the AI literacy of their team. Since July 2026 the rule is worded more softly. Here is what applies, and how we train.
As of: 24 September 2026

- Practise on real tasksWith your own examples, not textbook cases.
- Know the limitsWhere AI makes mistakes, which data must stay out, when a person decides.

Frequently asked questions
Is AI training mandatory under the AI Act?
Not as a prescribed course. Art. 4 requires companies that provide or use AI to take measures to support the AI literacy of their staff. Training is the obvious measure, but there is no fixed format.
Do we need a certificate?
No. According to the AI service desk of the Austrian regulator RTR, there is currently no certification for this training. It makes sense to document who received which training and when.
Are there fines if we do nothing?
The AI Act itself sets no administrative fine for Art. 4. RTR points to possible civil liability if staff cause damage through a lack of AI literacy.
Is internal training enough?
Yes. RTR names internal training, external advice and in-house workshops as possible routes. What matters is that the measure fits the systems and roles in your company.
What did the Digital Omnibus change?
Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 softened Art. 4: instead of ensuring a sufficient level of AI literacy, providers and deployers must now take measures to support it. The duty still lies with the companies.
